Do you have any interest in happenings in Houston? I noticed there weren’t event listings and commentary for that fair city, so I was just wondering.

I want to invite you to a show tomorrow at The Engine Room with The Presets and FIGO.

    Thanks!

LIVE Roller Derby and Wrestling THIS Saturday!!!

Saturday evening, July 28th the Dallas Derby Devils present “Nice Girls Finish Last” in Grand Prairie, Texas. The undefeated Slaughterers will face the once beaten and defending champions High Sea Hotties. In the other match up, the Suicide Shifters will play the Death Row Rumblers who are seeking their first win of the season. This is considered the first round of the playoffs as one of the five teams will be eliminated from the playoff process while the other game is likely to determine the top seed for the playoffs.

The defending champs lost to the Slaughterers 52-29 for their first loss ever in DDD league play. But jammers Lickity Split Tail, Razen Kane, and G-Town Butcher will be out to get even. The Hotties are a very strong defensive team featuring Cheatin’ Chong, Barooski, Hot For Teacher, and Wicked Bitch of the West.

The Slaughterers feature a power team of blockers that include Scary Cherry Bang Bang, The Shocker, and Mercy who are very capable of breaking up the HSH’s defensive tactics. Jammers include the powerful Keltic Kamikaze, Ann R Key, and Death By Dawn.

The Suicide Shifters beat the Death Row Rumblers, the new team on the block, earlier this season, but if the Rumblers can pull off the upset and their first victory ever, they could make it into the playoff picture. The Shifters feature jammers Mad Dog, Ultra Violence and Bits and Pieces and powerful blockers Rink Panther, Nitro Jen, and June Carter Crash.

The Death Row Rumblers will have Filmore Pain, Desi Deck Em’ and Blue Monday as a some of their featured jammers, while Suture Sally and Marilyn Monroll are a couple of their stronger blockers.

Before the games begin and during the half, a special performance by the hard-hitting muscle men of the XCW Professional Wrestling team from Denton, Texas. You won’t want to miss a single second of this action packed show! For more info on the XCW, visit http://www.xcwonline.net/

Action gets underway at Forum Rollerworld, 1900 S Great Southwest Parkway, in Grand Prairie, at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 7 o’clock. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door, although most of the events this year have sold out so get your tickets online or from your favorite skater. This is a BYOB venue, no glass please. For more information please the Dallas Derby Devils at http://www.derbydevils.com.

  26. Clint Niosi Says:

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOCAL SONGWRITERS PRESENT DUAL CD RELEASE

Local singer/songwriters Clint Niosi and Kristina Morland will celebrate the release of their respective debut albums with a CD release party and performance at the historic Rose Marine Theater in Fort Worth on Friday June 27th at 8p.m.

Clint’s album, “The Sound of Dead Horses Beaten Against Cold Shoulders” features lyrically heavy roots/folk/rock music covered with lush horn and string harmonies. The CD examines topics including, several versions of the afterlife, the subjective nature of truth, overactive idealism, and perseverance. “The Sound…” has been described by some as “Andrew Bird meets Magnetic Fields meets Led Zeppelin III”.

Kristina Morland’s album, “Pidgin Music” features stark contrasts and soaring vocals reminiscent of Johanna Newsom and Dolores O’Riordan. Pidgin Music is a tightly knit package of soulful and whimsical tunes. Kristina’s voice is sure to sweep you away.

Both Clint and Kristina made guest appearances on each other’s album and look forward to performing those special selections live during the release. The CD release will feature performances by Kristina Morland, Clint Niosi (with full band), and DJ Marcosis (during the preshow and intermission). Clint’s live band will feature James Talambas (The Theater Fire) on piano and trumpet, Aaron Bartz on electric guitar, Boyd Dixon on drums (both of Tame..Tame and Quiet), Marcus Lawyer on bass (Shh…Top Secret), Nicole Amundsen on violin (formerly of SMU Orchestra), and Emma Hertz on cello (formerly of Peter and The Wolf).

The night will be filmed for DVD.

The event will take place June 27th, 2008 at 8 p.m., music starts at 9 p.m. Admission is $5 dollars. Rose Marine Theater is located at 1440 N. Main St., Ft. Worth, TX 76106.

To the oh so fine line livers (not the large, reddish-brown, glandular organ located in the upper right side of the abdominal cavity),

My name is Greg, and I’d like to invite you to Dunn Bros. Coffehouse on Wednesday (most wednesdays, in fact) to watch our local duet perform. We’re called Derisory, I am (really catchy name, I know) and we had a full band but we broke up due to an unhealthy mix of “creative differences,” poor work ethic, and behavioral issues (everything your standard band faces, I’m certain), but we still need to get this great indie music out there.

Please join us for some of the best coffee in Dallas, some laughs, and live entertainment performed by some of the most talented musicians you’ve never heard of, as many other local musicians play there on a weekly basis.

    Thanks kindly,

  28. Ragtube Says:

Ragtube.com, a start-up, video-share, site-managed and ran by a 25 year old University of Oklahoma graduate named George R., which promotes Independent (Indie) Artists.

At first glance Ragtube.com is like any other video-share site, but if you look a little closer you’ll notice that none of the artists are head-line names. As a matter-fact, out of the 3,500 plus artists on Ragtube.com, 99% are Indie Artists. These artists range in genre from Hip-Hop to Rock, Metal and R&B, a number of musicians playing everything from the saxophone to the keys. Some of these artists have enormous talent, while others could use more practice.

We asked George R. what makes Ragtube.com different from any other video-share site, and he responded with his business model, “Everyone deserves to be heard, regardless of their level of talent. For some of these artists, being able to have their music heard outside of their shower, garage or local environment will be the highlight of their musical career.”

Given the success that Ragtube has established to date, we believe it has one of the most attractive and unique concepts around. When asked about the future of Ragtube.com, we were told that the company plans to attract over 20,000 Indie Artist over the next two years–affording them the opportunity to be heard.

To check out all the great music on Ragtube, visit Ragtube.com. Bands/Artists interesting in getting the music on Ragtube should take an advantage of a unique promotion that the site is running, where they can have their album’s cover art featured as the background on Ragtube.com!
