Cory Arcangel is a computer artist, performer, and curator who lives and works in Brooklyn. His work centers on his love of personal computers and the internet. He is the co-founder for the Beige Programming Ensemble. Current interests include C.S.N.&Y., CSS, RSS, GCC, C++, HTML, XML, and TEX. His work has shown in the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, The Guggenheim Museum, New York, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, The Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, Musee d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Space 1026, Philly, the Migros Museum, Zurich, Team Gallery, New York, and Thaddaeus Ropac Gallery, Paris/Salzburg and on his homepage.

Based in Stuttgart, Germany, artists Olia Lialina and Dragan Espenschied are inspired by the messages, animation, and changing iconography of the internet. In their recent exhibition Online Newspapers in Madison Square Park, the artists displayed digital reproductions of online newspapers covered with now technologically out-dated web graphics and animation. The Internet is a vast network of both the symbolic and banal; Lialina and Dragan examine the language of the public domain, its evolution and aesthetics. A pioneer of net art, Olia Lialina has lectured, curated and exhibited around the world, she currently teaches at Merz Akademie in Stuttgart. Dragan Espenschied is an artist, musician, and programmer who won the 2001 Media Award from Zentrum fr Kunst und Medien in Karlsruhe. Both artists have given lectures and exhibited their work at galleries and museums including, ABC Gallery, Moscow; Sonar, Barcelona; VertexList gallery, New York; RX gallery, San Francisco; SECESSION, Austria; and the New Museum, New York

Unique and one-of-a-kind, the SPCA of Texas Pet Flix Film Festival is an exciting and entertaining event that focuses on making our furry friends famous! Films entered into the festival showcase animals of all types and consist of a wide variety of genres including dramas, mysteries, parodies, music videos and comedies, to name a few. The finalists films will be shown at the festival and prizes will be presented to the top three winners as chosen by celebrity judges.

The first and only humane organization that hosts this type of event, The SPCA of Texas is one of the countrys largest humane organizations that provides services for more than 30,000 homeless and abused animals each year and provides citizens of the Dallas Metroplex with low-cost veterinarian services. D.E.E.P. Tonight – Tuesday, June 3rd

Posted by Cindy on 3rd June 2008

Ed. Note: Check out the spankin’ new Deep Ellum Media site. Lots of cool stuff a’comin’ over there.

Guest speaker begins at 9 p.m. at Space – Live Webcast Here on The Fine Line.
“The power of serving others in your community through the arts.”

Part of the First Tuesday Speaker Series, Deep Ellum invites locals making a difference in the neighborhood to come and talk to us about experiences, history and current projects. Past guests have included Jeff Liles, Alex Bevil from Town2 Project with Brian Gibb from The Public Trust, The Dallas Police Department, Katherine Seale of Preservation Dallas, and Barry Annino with representatives of Deep Ellum Foundation.

This time we will have Hal Samples of Hal Samples Gallery and Space Studios. This should be a great night of not only art appreciation but also civic and community issues.
This should be an exciting event and all are invited to arrive early for a sample of what Space Studios offers the neighborhood.

At 6:30 we’ll gather for a yoga session (a donation to the instructor is requested and just so you know… I hear it’s beginner friendly which is great because the last time I tried to touch my toes was high-school gym class and yes I’ll be there)

And then at 8 p.m. we’ll have a little meditation session just to cool off before the speaker series starts up.

Post for Mister McFatty…er…”Gus-Gus”

Meet Mr. Milton McFatty (off topic)

Posted by Cindy on 1st June 2008

So the girl-child has a birthday coming up next month and all she’s talked about for like the last 5 years is how much she wants a Pug.

Since she’s moving into her first apartment this weekend, which has me feeling a little nervous and weepy, I gave in to her incessant pleas and her wish has been granted.

We are still working on a firm name. He’s this teeny-tiny puppy with a gargantuan belly. Therefore, I immediately dubbed him “Mister McFatty.” The girl-child was leaning towards Milton, which complements my name, “Mister Milton McFatty.”

It’s been “Gus-Gus” the past 10 hours or so, named after that lovable big-bellied mouse in Cinderella. It seems to be sticking….oh…and it’s been a real joy picking up about 2-tons of puppy-poo, found in every nook and cranny of this Austin hotel room…sigh…how the hell does this little guy generate so much poop? No wonder that belly is so bloated.
