Last night’s meeting of the minds was quite inspirational. ‘Twas a roomful of music folks, ranging from venue owners to label types to musician’s of the year to media minds to plain ol’ bloggers like me. I think we are going into a much brighter future, as these meetings will continue, and hopefully grow and evoke changes towards the better good of the music community.

However, the most inspirational person of all last night was Ken Albrecht. It was my first time meeting him, and I can’t even begin to put into words what a wonderful, kind, giving person he is. It was an honor, truly.

Carter’s life and death shook something inside of me awake and gave me the courage to make life changes that were long overdue. I think of him everyday. I thank him everyday. I’m so glad that Ken Albrecht started the Carter Albrecht Music Foundation. There are a lot of really great things that will come out of it.

In Carter’s honor, the Albrecht family has established The Carter Albrecht Music Foundation. Many of Carter’s friends are involved in developing and supporting the foundation.

Mission Statement

The foundation is dedicated to the growth and betterment of music in Dallas by offering assistance in education, developing skills and improving the quality of life of its musicians.

Strategies to allow fulfillment of this mission include:

* Provide support and funds to local musicians and groups to realize their musical potential
* Provide quality instruments to individuals and groups to improve the quality of their recordings and performances
* Provide scholarships to talented and deserving youth to help them achieve their dreams
* Coordinate with other programs to support the quality of life for musicians for personal health and financial guidance
* Utilize the contacts and goodwill of musicians who worked with and knew Carter to help all musicians meet their musical goals
* Work with city and county agencies to foster a positive environment for musicians and the venues in which they perform

The Memorial Concert Video

On October 20, many of Carter Albrecht’s friends in the musical community came together at the historic Granada Theater in Dallas to honor their dear friend in song for a packed house and kick off awareness for the foundation. The entire event was graciously filmed by Dallas iMedia and full clips of the performances are available by the generous folks at Pegasus News. A $5 donation is optional but strongly suggested per download, and all proceeds benefit the foundation.
