Liles, I love you. But you already knew that. I miss Al too. It was so weird finding that newspaper section and reading it over and over, page after page, trying to figure out why I kept it. Back then, I knew nothing much about Al Brumley. However, just a few of years later, I did, and read his stuff regularly.

The only thing that stood out to me after I found it in a box full of other stuff, was his column. Weird. The good kind of weird, though.

Jimmy, it was great saying “hey” to you last night outside Dada. That Frankie Goes to Hollywood tape was done played dry. I used to commute to get to my base for flights. At that time (and still am) I was really scared of flying…I know, but when I was working flights it was different than just sitting there in a seat. Anyway, Pleasuredome, the song, was the only thing that calmed me down during take-off and landing. I’ll never, ever, ever toss that tape out.

Ah, Al Brumley… What a great guy. Al and my uncle Ed were best friends.

Al used to come to our family’s gathering every Christmas morning. He was a sweetheart.

I miss Al Brumley and The Met as well.

That FGTH cassette looks like it did hard time in the floorboard/on the dash.
