No, Seriously

It would be a freakin’ glorious day if the Observer took Jeff up on this…can you imagine how kick-friggin’-ass it would be to have that man at the helm?
In response to more than a few of us requesting that Jeff Liles take over the Music Editor position recently opened at the Dallas Observer, he replies…
I would actually love that gig – provided the Observer was willing to part with the old template of having each weekly editorial page being driven by one specific artist or personality. If they would be willing to have a music page that is specific-issue-driven each week – with additional commentary and perspective from a broad range of musicians, DJs, producers, and even music writers from other papers – then I would certainly welcome an opportunity to try and bring the Dallas music community together.
The old template of covering a specific band (by basically just regurgitating their bio and press kit) isn’t serving anyone. If we want the Dallas music scene to carry itself as a community, then we need to start thinking like a community. I would actually be honored to be the one to try and (sorry) get everyone on the same page.
Hal, since you are headin’ Jeff’s way, you need to talk him into coming back…

I’m shocked to hear Liles’s response. I figured he had bigger and better things to do.
That said, his comments overall were also kinda what was driving the most recent wild-ass idea I was going to talk to you about but haven’t yet. With that one word he kept repeating – “community” – the central theme. I just need to get around to spilling my shit to you, don’t I…?
