Mi Momma

My Mom and Her Mom

Today my mom would have turned 67 years old. Even though it’s been well over 20 years since she died, I still miss her so much, sometimes it hurts. She was a concert pianist, a very talented artist and poet. She was the most kind, gentle and generous person I’ve ever known. I wish she could have known my children, her grand-children. They would have all loved each other to pieces. Thankfully, the girl-child and the boy-child inherited her talent for art and music.

Happy birthday mom. I love you.

I think my mom would have really liked Salim Nourallah. I think she would have grown to love him and his music as much as I have and I think he would have liked her very much too.

I relate and miss my Dad too. I’m not much on religion, too many overly zealous knuckleheads, but I do believe strongly in… Making those who came before you proud and leaving the world a better place.

It’s been 23 years since my dad died, but I don’t know if a day goes by without me thinking about him. I was only 8 when he died, but I still remember him pulling out his guitar and serenading me and my sister with “Froggy Went A-Courtin’” and other old folk songs. It hurts that my kids — not to mention my wife — never knew him.

Cindy, thank you for sharing. I’m calling my mother right now.

Just curios. Are there any recordings of your mother’s piano playing? You should check with aunts and uncles, cousins, etc. You never know if someone has that stuff boxed away. Amber’s grandmother found some reel-to-reel tapes of her great uncle Billie playing guitar. I have them in my possession and will get those transferred someday. He’s still alive and still plays phenomenally through his original 1950′s amp at family gatherings. From what I understand, he’s jammed with Willie Nelson (a looong time ago) and some other folks. Anyway, sorry to ramble. That stuff gets me excited. You should check with your family or maybe you already have recordings or an album. Albums are not that hard to transfer anymore.
