Goodbye to a Friend

Posted by Cindy on September 7th, 2007

Today we say goodbye to our friend. I wish I could be there in person to celebrate his life and share stories with everyone else, but it’s just not possible. I’m still walking around in a haze. Everything feels and seems so surreal. I’m appalled to look at MySpace bulletins, from people promoting shows and general nonsense. Don’t they know? Don’t they know the world is worse off now without Carter roaming around it? I can’t stop thinking about Ryann and Carter’s parents and family, and his best friends. I hope everyone is holding up as well as they can. They are all in my thoughts, even the people I’ve never even met.

At 2 PM, I’m going to go sit by the river and think of all the good times I shared with Carter. I’ll reflect on things I can do, in his honor, to make the world a better place. I love you my friend. Goodbye and God Bless.

There’s a really incredible interview with Carter’s parents here. Be sure to stick around and watch the entire thing, including the segments that weren’t aired last night on CBS 11 News.

    Dear Cindy,

Many thanks for your exhaustive coverage and tribute to Carter.

His songs made me cry when he was alive. They were always so down-right fucking beautiful without relying on conventional sentimentalities. I doubt you have to imagine how many tears have been shed the last few days.

The world is certainly a grayer place without him in it, but I’ll always feel my life is richer knowing he was here, sharing his phenomenal gifts with grace. He was the kind of friend even late-comers like me who heard his music first then was lucky enough to share snapshot moments, lifetimes within each, as the great man he was.

In life, as in death, Carter always left you wanting more.
