Rock & Rescue – A Good Intentioned Band Competition
Posted by Cindy on August 2nd, 2007

So I went to the interview yesterday. It’s a job that’s pure fun, little pay and not much stress. The interview-dude said I was “over-qualified.” Bwahahahahahahahahahaha…*gasp*…hahahahahahahahah…I responded. Perhaps on paper, one might think I actually possess skills and/or talent, but the truth is, on occasion I can muster-up some good bullsh*t. When the subject of the music thang I’ve been doing the past 7+ years came up, he was almost insistent that I keep that up. Whaaaaa…? But there’s little to no pay, I replied. I’ve been hemming and hawing over what to do about this site and the whole music thing. It will truly be like starting over here in San Antone. I can’t figure out the scene here, and the few folks I’ve tried to contact, no contact me back. Anyhoo, the interview-dude told me about some bar he hangs out at on occasion called the Babcock Bar. Can’t for the life of me find a website for it. Can’t for the life of me understand any bidness of any kind not having a web presense, ‘specially cuz I’d like to take a gander at their music calendar.
So I’m…sigh…unpacking boxes this morning with the teevee blaring and my ears kinda perked-up when I heard about this little competitiony type thingie…
ROCK N RESCUE Saving the Lives of Pets One Song at a Time!
San Antonio is in the middle of some musical fun and its all for a good cause. It’s called Rock n Rescue. It started in April and will run through September 2007. Rock n Rescue is a series of local music competitions held at 13 different nightclubs and its all for the benefit of the dogs and cats of the City of San Antonios Animal Care Services.
LATEST ROCK N RESCUE NEWS. Rock n Rescue event scheduled for Thursday, August 2nd at The Babcock Bar, 8800 block of Huebner from 6pm to 8pm. Chris Lopez Band, Sunday Silence and Eden Burning perform for chance to open for Blue Oyster Cult at AT&T Summer Concert Series August 25 at Sunken Gardens Theater.Rock & Rescue features three to four local bands each night, competing for the chance to open for four national music acts that are headlining the AT&T Summer Concert Series in June, July, August and September at the Sunken Gardens Theater at Brackenridge Park in San Antonio, Texas.
Tickets to each of the summer concerts are only Five Dollars and are available at the gate. A one dollar surcharge is added to the admission price. That money goes to the City of San Antonio to continue renovations and repair to the Sunken Gardens Theater.
August 25, 2007: BLUE OYSTER CULT IN CONCERT!!
Gate Opens at 5:30pm Spanning three decades, Blue Oyster Cult has a long and storied history. The band got its start in the late 60s on Long Island, New York, as the Soft White Underbelly, but each member had been involved in bands previously in high school and college, before ending up in the right place at the right time to create the beginnings of Blue Oyster Cult. Today, the band is on a coast-to-coast tour rewarding audiences with hits such as Burnin for You, Godzilla, Astronomy and the timeless classic Dont Fear The Reaper which, in addition to topping the charts, was also a hilarious Saturday Night Live skit starring Christopher Walken and featuring the legendary phrase I gotta fever, and the only prescription, is more Cowbell supplied by Will Ferrell.
All of this music will help to raise awareness and money for Animal Care Services as it begins a five year program to transition its facility into a no-kill shelter. The new 38,000 square foot, campus-style ACS facility is located on the southwest side of San Antonio. When its completed later this summer, the ten buildings will include increased kennel capacity for dogs and adoption space; a cattery adoption area with space for 210 felines; a 45-square foot cat condo in the administration building lobby; a medical clinic for on-site spay/neuter procedures; get acquainted yard and other assets.
The next competition goes down tonight at…you guessed it….the Babcock Bar from 6-8 PM. Perhaps I’ll dust off the ol’ Microtrack and juice up the ol’ video camera and go have a look-see. Lord knows I ain’t got nuthin’ else to do.
PS – The interview-dude insisted I come back today and meet with his boss. He says they’ll find a position worthy of my skills. Again….I can’t help but say…BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…”skills”…you’re killin’ me man…
DEATHRAY DAVIES – “CLOCK IN NOW”

Hmmm…
San Antonio has the aforementioned ACS that I’ve been reading about for a while…
I am, in my own personal cyber-universe, “acs” (lowercase)…
I’ve been researching something no-kill-related over the past couple weeks…
I’m a music geek…
(cue sound of gears grinding together)
I smell serendipity. Or maybe I’m just downwind from someone who stepped in it…

Oh Danny-boy…the thing that caught my eye was the ACS part intermingling with music. Sweet. Case in point, I sit here with my kitty and doggy on each knee as I type, one of which I fell in love with at Operation Kindness in Dallas about 7 years ago. However, I might shoo them off and go make my monetary contribution tonight…or screw the job search and volunteer my ass at the new facility.
Don’tcha love the scent of serendipity in the air?
