The Fine Line

Now What?

Posted by Cindy on July 16th, 2007

We finally filled the cars with the last of our belongings and made the trek down I-35 one more time this past weekend. Reality has really done a number on meownself. It occurred to me that, not only do I reside in a town I know virtually nothing about, I don’t know one single solitary soul. Nary a friend, nor an acquaintance. How, I asked myself, does one go about meeting new friends? Me. A middle-aged mother?

The new digs is situated on an older street. And by older, I mean the median age range is around 70. So no particularly good pickin’s there. I joined an all gals gym and have had a couple of chits and chats about equipment and weather and what-not. I’d think to myself, “self.” I’d say, “I could be friends with this gal.” But I think one might find me inquiries “please, please be my friend…please…” a little, how you say, creepy.

I’m looking for a job too. What better way to meet people, right? However, my exit-pointing, chicken-or-beef peddlin’, peanut slinging experience as a career flight attendant doesn’t seem to impress.

For the life of me I can’t figure out what’s what with the music scene here in S.A. So I’ve put out the call to my favorite local station, KSYM 90.1’s program director, Randon Martinez about some audio brain-pickin’ to get a feel for what’s goin’ on here. If the good man agrees, look for an “Inside the Mind” with Randon soon..which reminds me, I miss Reid.

John you rock! I think I remember Sam Machkovech telling me you were from S.A. Sara Radle too, I think.

There seems to be a big list of SA-area artists in the schedule for the San Antonio Indie Festival: http://www.saindie.com/

But I don’t know any of them. And now that I think about it .. I think you are the one that originally turned me on to this festival :-)

And there’s always going to myspace and searching for bands in/around San Antonio. Kind of a shotgun approach, but maybe something fun’ll show up.

I need to find out if they plan to continue that festival. Muffy, the best thing for all is for you to move down here next door and keep me entertained as always….xxox

Damn, I miss you too! We need to get ‘Inside Some Minds’ soon. Wanna hookup in Austin this weekend? We could do some ‘Insides’, and keep em short. Do you think it’s possible with us? lol…
Be fun to talk to John D. sometime. He’s a super fella!

Congrats! Fine Line was nominated for a DOMA again. Even when you split town, step back a little, and toy with turning of the power at Fine Line, it still gets nominated. Lot’s of your friends were nominated too.
    We love you Cindy!
