Hugh Hefner Goes All Emo(s)

Posted by Cindy on January 3rd, 2007

It seems our beloved Emo’s in Austin made the Playboy.com A-List of their picks for “America’s 10 Best Rock Clubs.” They made nice mention of some of The Fine Line’s favorite Austin bands too…you go Bunny…

Emo’s Austin
603 Red River Street, Austin, Texas

One of the main venues for the annual South By Southwest booze-and-music bacchanal in the spring, Emo’s remains at the center of this bohemian college town’s vibrant music scene all year round. Literally, since its location at the corner of Red River Street and Sixth Avenue places it within stumbling distance of a dozen other solid clubs. But most nights, there isn’t much of a reason to leave Emo’s. The club’s name is no indication of the genre of music you’ll hear inside, since everyone from the latest indie darlings to rock en espaƱol get stage time. Johnny Cash even graced the stage in 1994, and the stool he rested on during his set still hangs from the bar’s ceiling. You can catch acts three ways at Emo’s: indoors; at the intimate Emo’s Lounge next door; and on the backyard stage beneath the stars. It’s hard to top a cool evening outdoors with a cold Lone Star beer and a scorching band on stage.
