Sucks…

Posted by Cindy on 22nd November 2006

What the hell? Three of the nicest guys on earth, yet they can’t catch a damn break…Erv Karwelis shares some bad news…

I wanted to let you all know that Picnic aka Picnic Tyme who is a member and producer of Idol group PPT, lost his entire house and studio last night when a fire gutted his apartment building in Plano, the fire originated in a neighboring apartment and spread throughout the building. It was a total loss of everything including his studio and recording archives. As most of you know, Picnic has produced tracks for many local and national artists including the new PPT Cd Tres Monos In Love. Picnic is one of the most talented upcoming Hip Hop producers and beat makers in North Texas and this is a devastating loss for him and the local hip hop community.

We are in the process of organizing a benefit concert to help him get back on his feet. It will be on Sunday Dec. 3rd at Doublewide. More details will be coming soon.

We would appreciate your help getting the word out and I can be reached at 214-321-8890 or erv@idolrecords.com if anyone is interested in contributing.

How the hell much does this suck? A helluva lot. I’ll be at that benefit show, as I expect you will too.

Samplin’

Posted by Cindy on 22nd November 2006

I met Hal Samples a couple of years ago when I was hosting live webcasts of performances at Standard and Pours. We immediately hit it off, and when he told me his story, I found myself not only liking the guy, but really respecting him as well.

Hal probably does more to bring attention (and help) to the homeless masses in Dallas than anyone else in the city. Having dug himself out of the homeless state himself, he continues to go back to that place to help others he has met and befriended along the way. Hal is working on a documentary focusing on the homeless community in Dallas. Hal writes:

“Last Friday, I went to my third Dallas Homeless Stand-down held at the Dallas Convention Center. I was blessed with running into many of my friends who I hadn’t seen for as long as since my first one, made a few new ones, found out about several who are now gone for one reason or another… and finally came across a man (who I’ve been searching for two years) named Ford. He goes by the nick name “Scrap Iron” due to a life altering experience he had after a man gave him a harmonica three years ago. This would be the first time he had held a harmonica or ever thought about playing one. Today, as you can see, this beautiful man plays like… (fill in your words here)
I’m speechless.”

Rough draft of what’s to come with Dreamtown.

Keep all eyes here to keep up with Hal’s doin’s, and fergoodnesssake contribute your time and money when and if you wanna.

Did I mention that Hal Samples is also an extremely gifted photographer? He is. He’s also a generous photographer…

More on Trees

Posted by Cindy on 22nd November 2006

SaMach reported last week that Fat Daddy’s owner Kenny Brittain was set to re-open Trees as an all-ages venue. Today’s MySpace bulletin comes with glitches in said plans…

We were in process of getting all of our permits. We were told that we need a “Special Use Permit”. When we applied for the “Special Use Permit” we were told that we would not be approved. That the Deep Ellum Association does not want underagers in Deep Ellum anymore. As a matter of fact we were told to look elsewhere.

…hm…

In case anybody happens to wander in here after I gave my farewell speech, then lemme hip you to what’s what nowadays.

I’m still here, just not posting as much as I have been over the years. There will be some live audio/video every once in awhile. I’ll post shows I think are worthy of yours and my time. But mainly I’m hanging out here. I hope you’ll join us over at the QuickDFW.com Blah Blah Blah Blog everyday. I post my top 5 show picks daily, with audio to back ‘em up. That’s why you are seeing audio here on posts…I figure why not share the love, eh?

Have a good one…
