‘Nuther Sam Machkovech Exclusive…

Posted by Cindy on November 16th, 2006

Yeah, so I’m not gone for good just yet. I’ll post stuff here I can’t post there…oh shutup…

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Sam just broke (yet another) bit’o-news that made me go hmmm…

Kenny Brattain, owner of Fat Daddy’s Sound Shack in Lewisville, has confirmed to bigdlittled.com that he is in the process of reopening the former Trees building at 2709 Elm St. in Deep Ellum.

Read this and this.

Wha…?

Not only is my boy-child a fan of live music, he’s also fronted a couple of young bands. Therefore, I’ve spent many an hour at Fat Daddy’s in Lewisville…many, many a painful, non-alcohol hour (note: post-hardcore screamo parents should be allowed a libation or 10). Owner Kenny Brittain and his wife run a pretty nifty ship at the original Fat Daddy’s. All of the shows are all-ages. Most of the shows see under-aged rockers on stage. Even though the venue is situated on a far corner in an all but empty, crumbling strip center in old Lewisville, the joint still packed those kiddies in wall-to-wall.

This will be an interesting thing to watch unfold. Again, in usual Sam form, his entries are indepth and well researched and so very worthy of your time. Read it and read it.

    I like Kenny, Fat Daddy’s and what he’s done so far. I am happy to see him open Trees. Deep Ellum restricts clubs under the age of 17 so I don’t really see what the difference of this or most other clubs. Alcohol upstairs was the norm for all ages shows at Trees. Life and energy beats moldy old memories anyday!

    Sams reporting was / is great, but it wasn’t all that difficult to figure out when Kenny sent out his ‘friend request’ on myspace. Am happy Sam got to break the story though.

    btw Cindy, thank you for this post! I am reading Blahblahblah too. I really appreciate all the links you served up to the community you and Amanda built as well.
