The Range Goes All Hollywood
Posted by Cindy on July 21st, 2006

Years ago I worked for 95.3 The Range. For the most part, I loved it…with the exception of one person who shall remain nameless. That person is no longer at the station, therefore my fondness for KHYI has returned.
I’ve been hearing about this documentary about the station for quite awhile now – looks like it’s finally come to fruition…
The Range, a musical documentary, is premiering July 23rd through July 27th at the world famous Granada Theater.
The Range explores one of the most unique radio stations in the United States, KHYI also known as The Range.
The documentary features the music of Lonesome Bob, Austin Cunningham, Pinmonkey, Dallas Wayne, Cooder Graw, Becca Dalrymple, Trent Summar & The New Row Mob, Jason Boland & The Stragglers, Kevin Deal and more.
Synopsis:
According to the Federal Communications Commission there are over 13,000 radio stations in the United States but only one, THE RANGE.The Range explores one of the most unique radio stations in the United States, KHYI also known as The Range. In an age when media conglomerates dominate both public and private radio stations KHYI is one of the last family owned and operated FM stations in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
As Nashville finds itself increasing dependent on the power of corporations, marketing focus groups, and consultants KHYI plays what its listeners call OKOM, Our Kind of Music, “Hard Country.”
The Good Fight Digital Motion Pictures combines musical elements with documentary filmmaking to tell the story of the last stand for the virtue of country music, KHYI, The Range.
This is going to be a fun week at The Granada. Not only can you catch the flick, you also get a concert tossed in the mix.
Each night:
Doors at 6:15 PM
Show Starts at 7:15 PM
$7.50 Per Ticket
Each night a KHYI artist will perform before the movie, as well as re-hash stories from their memories of The Range.
Sunday, July 23 – Chip Taylor
Monday, July 24 – Ray Wylie Hubbard
Tuesday, July 25 – Max Stalling
Wednesday, July 26 – Matt Hilyer
Thursday, July 27 – Dallas Wayne
This is pretty cool…

Thanks so much for listing this! This is the only place I heard about this. Before this week I didn’t listen to (or even know much about) The Range. But I like documentaries, and I’d heard good things about this Ray Wylie Hubbard guy (kidding, kidding) and so a buddy and I went on Monday night. The concert was OUTSTANDING. The documentary, well, it was so-so.
But thanks, and thanks again! I never would have known about it if it wasn’t for this blog.
